Paqpaqli Ghall-Istrina is the biggest annual motoring event in
2013 will see the eight edition of the organization of this event and the fifth to be held within the grounds of the Malta International Airport.
Each year the event grows in importance and in popularity, with the 2011 edition attracting international participants such as Pagani with the Zonda, Bugatti’s Veyron, the Lotus Evora S, 2 outstanding Ferraris and the motorbike stunt rider, Angyal Zoltan, among others. The star line up attracted more than 13,000 visitors to the event, while the crowd was kept entertained with a programme of events throughout the day. On the day of l-Istrina itself, the team presented H.E. The President with a record breaking donation of Eur146,090.00.
In 2012 the event’s main attraction was the current McLaren Formula One car as well as ex-world Champion Lewis Hamilton in person. Hamilton drove the F1 car down the track, giving the motorsport lovers the experience of their lives. The event also saw 2 F12 Berlinetta Ferraris on display, as well as racing each other down the track.
The 2012 edition enabled the collection of over € 178,000.00, which cheque was presented to H.E. The President during the annual L-Istrina telethon.
Paqpaqli Ghall-Istrina is all about raising funds towards The Malta Community Chest Fund. Taking into consideration the brilliant success of last year’s event the organizing committee aims to once again collect funds to be donated to The Malta Community Chest Fund.
The attractions on the day start from the largest static display of cars on show. These cars range from classic and vintage cars, to American autos, modified and street cars. The majority of Clubs in Malta come together on this day to display their prized vehicles, all sharing the same passion towards motor sport.
Further attractions on the day are provided by the constant shows displayed by the international attractions which have in the past gathered thousands along the side lines of the taxiway, to watch the live action taking place. Participants on the day also have the opportunity to perform sprints on the taxiway and take part in the circuit track.
With the idea of making this event also a family day out, music and entertainment will be provided while a kids’ area ensures that even the young enjoy the vibrant energy of the day.
A family day event is not complete without wholesome food and drinks and people attending are sure to be spoilt for choice with the catering outlets available.
